The story
Wombat Cricket runs a showroom and workshop at Willow Court in Ivybridge, Devon. Its bats are made by hand by bat maker Harry Solomon, using English willow clefts supplied by its sister company, Wombat Willow. The firm also sells pads, gloves, wicketkeeping kit and luggage for adults and juniors, and lists several regional business awards from 2017 onwards.
The site sets out its making process step by step, from choosing and pressing the cleft to shaping with drawknives, spokeshaves and planes, then sanding, waxing and binding. Grades run from three star through four star and Pro to Limited Edition. Customers can order a shape in a chosen grade and weight, commission a fully bespoke bat, or buy one-off workshop bats.
