The story

Gray-Nicolls dates its cricket business to 1855 and has made bats in the East Sussex village of Robertsbridge for around 150 years. The company says it is now in its fifth generation of the Gray family, and over that time its bats have been used by Test cricketers from WG Grace and Frank Worrell to Brian Lara and Alastair Cook.

An unusual feature is that it grows its own willow trees, so it controls the timber from plantation to finished blade. Beyond the Sussex factory it opened a bat factory in Melbourne about 50 years ago and has operated in Jalandhar, India, since the 1990s. The Robertsbridge workshop also repairs, adjusts and prepares bats for the public.

Where they're made Own factories in Robertsbridge (England), Melbourne (Australia) and Jalandhar (India).
