The story

Aldred Cricket Bats was set up in 2008 by Paul Aldred, a former Derbyshire county cricketer who later coached. Before his playing career he worked in the building trade, and he turned to bat making as a way to stay close to the game. The business grew largely by word of mouth rather than advertising.

Bats are made in a small workshop at Paul's home in Derbyshire, and he carries out every stage himself, from planing the cleft to fitting the grip. Willow comes from JS Wrights, where he picks clefts in person. The firm stresses keeping manufacture in the UK to cut the distance willow travels.
