The story
Hawk Cricket was started in 1996 by brothers Robert and Michael. In 2004 they joined forces with Bernie Facer of Double B bat makers, who spent the following six years passing on his willow knowledge and bench skills before retiring. The business remains a family concern, with a younger generation now learning the trade.
Bats are made at the workshop in Drayton, near Belbroughton, from J S Wright willow. Each blade is pressed individually, handles are fitted slightly forward to follow the bow, and bats are finished by hand with linseed wax. The current XB500, XB700 and XB900 models come in three grades, and visitors are welcome at the workshop and Pavilion shop.
