The story
Salix was set up in 1990 by Andrew Kember and Hugh Betts and still works from a farm workshop near Maidstone. The team is small, with Andrew's wife Kel Kember also making bats, yet it produces thousands of bats a year. Most bats sold direct are made or finished to order.
Andrew Kember designed the hydraulic press the workshop uses, and has represented bat makers in MCC discussions on bat dimensions. Salix has run free bat fittings for more than three decades, and in 2023 added Acid, a sister brand aimed at lighter, bigger modern shapes.
